Symposium Genes, Genetics and Genomics (G3) 2016 in Prague
15. 4. 2016
The seventh edition of the traditional Prague spring scientific event Genes, Genetics and Genomics, G3 Symposium with international participation took place on Friday, April 15, 2016. As last year, the meeting took place in the lecture hall of the Dean's Office of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, which together with the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) sponsored the symposium. The direct organization was taken over by Prof. Tomáš Stopka for the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and Dr. Kateřina Machová Poláková for the IHBT.
The G3 Symposium was held in the form of two comprehensive lectures given by leading scientists from renowned foreign university departments. The main focus of the symposium was on the issue of resistance to chronic myeloid leukemia and gene expression changes during normal hematopoiesis.
Single Cell Gene Expression Analysis - EMBO practical course
April 2016
Pavel Burda was one of sixteen young scientists from all over the world who were selected by the EMBO course organizers based on the evaluation of the submitted applications. Thanks to his successful application and application, he had the opportunity to attend this very intensive one-week practical course at the EMBL (The European Molecular Biology Laboratory) in Heidelberg, Germany.
The course focused on progressive modern methods for the analysis of molecular events at the level of single cells, the so-called single cell analysis. The course included theoretical and practical part connected with introduction of methods for isolation of single cells (FACS, LCM) and subsequent expression analysis (qRTPCR, Next Generation Sequencing, Fluidigm system). All of this was directed by the leaders of successful European "single cell" laboratories, many of whom were directly involved in the development of the methods (M. Kubista, M. Pfaffl, A. Ståhlberg and others).
Pavel was enthusiastic about the course, highlighting the individual approach and the opportunity to discuss with the experts the perspective and limitations of each method for the specific research projects of each participant. The event offered a very comprehensive overview of new trends in cell analysis, which will undoubtedly become routine in every modern molecular genetics laboratory in the near future. Pavel brought to the IHBT the know-how in the field of single cell analysis, which we will first apply on in vitro models in the framework of our department's research projects.

Open day for CML patients
6 February 2016
In cooperation with the association Diagnosis CML, z. s., we organized an open day for patients diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in our molecular genetics laboratories, where we perform diagnostic testing by monitoring the levels of BCR-ABL1 transcripts during treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
