Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Plan - IHBT
Between January and March 2022, the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) conducted a gender audit in accordance with the Gender Audit Standard of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and in relation to the European policy and objectives of gender equality. Therefore, in order to make the process as reflective as possible of the real situation, the management of the Institute decided to commission the audit from an external company, Otevřená Společnost, o.p.s., which specializes in gender policy and conducts gender audits.
There were several reasons for the audit,
- as of 2022, applicants for European grants are obliged to indicate whether their institution has a gender equality plan (Horizon Europe_Gender Equality Plan - criteria)
- for GA CR grant projects implemented from 2023 onwards, the obligation to document an existing Gender Equality Plan (similar direction can be expected for other national providers)
- to become an employer at European level and actively participate in improving working conditions and opportunities for its employees, reconciliation of work and personal life, international mobility and other aspects of HR policy
The audit included,
analysis of public and non-public institutional documents, as well as qualitative (focus groups and individual semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (questionnaire survey) research.
Employees, including managers and members of the IHBT management, were given the opportunity to comment, for example, on the working environment, reconciliation of personal and professional life, training and career development opportunities, and other HR and gender policy issues.
The audit focused on five key areas,
- Recruitment and selection, redundancies
- Vertical and horizontal workforce structure and career policy
- Appraisal, remuneration and training
- Family-friendly working environment (work-life balance programmes)
- Organisational culture
The audit showed,
the positive aspects of IHBT as an employer, but also pointed out reserves, which ÚHKT will focus on in the framework of the newly established Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Plan in the coming 5 years. This Plan, based on the results and recommendations of the gender audit, has 4 phases - analysis/audit, plan development, implementation and evaluation. Please refer to the Plan timeline (found below in the Important Documents section) to see which phase the IHBT is in.
The ambitious plan of the IHBT does not end here,
The next plan of the IHBT is to apply for HR Awards in the coming years.
