Intensive Care Unit

The intensive care unit (ICU) of the IHBT provides comprehensive care for patients with hematopoietic diseases whose condition requires intensive care methods including support of organ functions (e.g. artificial pulmonary ventilation, dialysis).

Patients undergoing haematological treatment in the IHBT and whose general condition has deteriorated due to a complication (most often a severe infection), as well as patients in a severe clinical condition caused by a previously undiagnosed haematopoietic disease are admitted to the ICU. Thus, we provide haematological, intensive and diagnostic care. Also, patients are hospitalized here who receive treatment requiring monitoring of the patient's condition due to the high risk of developing complications or when the latest experimental therapies are administered not only in routine practice but also in clinical trials.

Head physician: MUDr. Barbora Čemusová

Station nurse. Andrea Dočkalová, MBA

Within the IHBT campus you will find us on the 2nd floor of Building B (from the elevator on the left). The capacity of the ward is a maximum of 10 beds and most of the rooms are single rooms. The recommended list of things to do in the ICU can be found here.

Visits are available throughout the day, but preferably between 2pm - 6pm.

Respiratory protection and a disposable empire are required to enter the ward - we recommend bringing your own respirator. If necessary, access to the ward is restricted and visits may be banned during periods of respiratory infection. Visiting hours can be extended in individual cases after discussion with the doctor.

INFORMATION PROVISION

Information about the condition of patients is provided to relatives not only in person but also by telephone. It is always necessary that the patient himself agrees to inform the person asking for information - i.e. that such a person is named in the patient's informed consent. In the case of a telephone interview, the identity of the interviewer will be verified with the password specified by the patient when signing the consent form. The time available for telephone consultations is from 11 am to 3 pm.
