Laboratory for Disorders in Hemostasis

The Laboratory for Disorders in Hemostasis (LDH) is engaged in diagnostics and pathophysiology of hemostasis disorders.

The laboratory activity combines routine and conciliar work in laboratory diagnostics and scientific research supported by grants. The laboratory closely cooperates with the Centre for Thrombosis and Hemostasis and NRL for Disorders in Hemostasis.

The Laboratory offers expert interpretations of coagulation profiles and consultations in the diagnosis with bleeding and thrombotic disorders. An extensive battery of tests is offered using advanced and progressive technologies.  Coagulation tests are extremely sensitive to methods of collection and preservation. It is very important that specimen collection and processing instructions are followed closely to insure accurate test results. Please refer to the Laboratory Users Guide for our online searchable test database specimen collection instructions and other test-related information. Please contact the Coagulation Laboratory prior to specimen collection for additional testing information not covered in the Laboratory Users Guide. Coagulation Tests Menu is an attachment to the Laboratory Users Guide.

In 2010 the laboratory obtained accreditation according to the requirements of the international standard ČSN EN ISO 15189. For more than 30 years the laboratory took a regular part in international quality control of coagulation methods conducted by ECAT (The Netherland) and UK NEQAS.

The IHBT was designated as one of three CCCs (Comprehensive Care Centres) for treatment of hemophilia and rare bleeding disorders in the Czech Republic. Its statute shows that the Laboratory for Disorders in Hemostasis is in charge of highly specialized tests of bleeding conditions, including molecular genetic tests.

The laboratory also administers the National Registry of Patients with Congenital Coagulation Disorders where over 1,400 patients with FVIII, FIX, vWF, FXI, FXII, FVII, ADAMTS13 and fibrinogen deficits are recorded.

The research in our laboratory is focused on mechanisms of hemostasis & thrombosis and on disorders of hemostasis & thrombosis, mainly on hemophilia, Von Willebrand disease, rare bleeding disorders, thrombotic microangiopathies, antithrombin, protein C and protein S deficiency.
