Imunohematology

The Department of Immunohematology provides basic immunohematological testing of blood donors and routine pre-transfusion testing for patients of the clinical section of the Institute of Hematology and some tests for patients of paediatric haematology at Motol Hospital.

In 2010, the Department of Immunohematology successfully passed the ČIA accreditation audit and received accreditation, which was supplemented with additional methods in 2012.

The department is divided into two parts:

Patients with developed antibodies are tested for their specificity, and erythrocyte, possibly lymphocyte or platelet typing is performed in order to provide the optimal blood product for these sensitized individuals. The chimerism of erythrocytes after bone marrow transplantation is monitored, especially with regard to the early detection of the change of the recipient's blood group to the donor's blood group to ensure the correct blood product for these patients.

The Department of Immunohematology also includes an HLA serology laboratory.

The NRL for Immunohematology performs the most challenging immunohematology tests in dealing with complex antibody and antigen cases sent to the laboratory from all over the country and the Slovak Republic.
