Laboratory of Flow Cytometry

The department is part of the Laboratory Complement of IHBT. It continuously upholds the independent and impartial assessment of the Laboratory Complement’s professional competence in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 15189 standard, whose application is certified by the Czech Accreditation Institute. The examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined in the annex of the Accreditation Certificate in its current version, which is available on the IHBT website.

The Flow Cytometry Laboratory conducts routine/diagnostic, research, and educational activities. It specializes in immunophenotyping of haematological malignancies (acute and chronic leukemias, lymphoproliferative and myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma). Additional examinations are focused on diagnosis and follow up of paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, congenital platelet disorders, and corpuscular anaemias.

The laboratory is equipped with the following flow cytometers: BD FACSCanto II, CE-IVD (3 lasers/9 fluorescence channels), Omnicyt, CE-IVD (3 lasers/11 fluorescence channels), Omnicyt, CE-IVD (4 lasers/14 fluorescence channels), and BD FACSAria III flow cytometer/cell sorter (3 lasers/10 fluorescence channels) and Cytec Northern Lights CE-IVD spectral cytometer.

Laboratory procedures follow the recommendations of the European Leukemia Net (ELN), the International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS), and the European Society of Clinical Cell Analysis (ESCCA) and are validated in compliance with EU Directive 2017/746 for CE IVDR.

The laboratory participates in national (SEKK: IF, CD34+) and international (UK NEQAS: AML-MRD, ALL-MRD, MM-MRD, CLL-MRD, PNH, CSF, phenotyping, diagnostics) external quality control cycles. It also organizes an interlaboratory comparison program (ILP) for the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as an international external quality control program under the auspices of the European Society for Clinical Cell Analysis (ESCCA). Furthermore, the laboratory is involved in various institutional scientific projects and provides continuous post gradual education for secondary school and university-level healthcare professionals.

Staff members are bound by confidentiality under the Healthcare Services Act, 372/2011 Coll.

Trust and high-level data security are among the fundamental priorities within the activities of the Laboratory Complement of the IHBT. Established procedures comply with the Personal Data Processing Act, 110/2019 Coll., and the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and Council of April 27, 2016, on the protection of individuals regarding the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data, repealing Directive 95/46/EC. More information is available on the IHBT website.
