Registration number: CZ.2.16/3.1.00/28007

Number in CES: INO/02/01/001951/2012

The project is implemented under the 8th Call of the Operational Programme Prague - Competitiveness, Support Area 3.1: Development of innovation environment and partnership between R&D base and practice.

The project is intended for the Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, for the transfusiology department - the apheresis department; the clinical department - the anaemia laboratory; the research department - the national reference laboratory for DNA diagnostics, the department of biochemistry, cell physiology and experimental virology. The research activities carried out here are covered by public funding for science and research.

The partners of the project are two academic research institutes from the non-profit sector, which have been cooperating successfully with IHBT on research projects for a long time:

  • Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the CAS, v.v.i.
  • Institute of Pathological Physiology, 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague

Project start date: 1.9.2012

Project end date: 31.5.2013

Duration: 9 months

The aim of the project is the development of new diagnostic procedures and drugs for commercial use within the institute, through the acquisition of instrumentation for research and development in oncohematology. The aim is also to continue the development of new disciplines such as proteomics and metabolomics and to upgrade the technical base for research and development at the level of single cells, study of cellular structures, analysis of gene expression and monitoring of cellular immune response, to increase the competitiveness of the institute in the territory of the capital city of Prague, to improve its economic potential and, above all, to improve the health of the institute's patients and the population of the Czech Republic.

The modernisation will include equipping the laboratories with new equipment - purchase of the following devices:

  • Second Generation Sequencing System
  • System for DNA and RNA purification
  • System for rheopheresis
  • System for vertical electrophoresis and electroblotting
  • NanoSpray and nanoHPLC with 4000 Q TRAP mass spectrometer software
  • Gentle mMACS Dissociator
  • Nucleoeffector

The reason for the project implementation is to increase the competitiveness of the applicant in the field of therapeutic and preventive activities, to increase the quality of scientific research activities, to increase the competitiveness of other entities (using the research outputs), to increase the quality of treatment of the population and to increase the attractiveness and prestige of the IHBT for young scientists. The modernisation of equipment will enable the expansion of research activities that are currently covered by domestic grant agencies.

The successful implementation of the project will address the shortcomings in the equipment of the laboratories of the IHBT through the purchase of 7 state-of-the-art instruments and equipment. The department will thus be able to carry out a number of research tasks that will lead to the development of new diagnostic procedures and drugs and link basic research (carried out within the project) with applied research.
