Laboratory for Disorders of Haemostasis
The department is included in the Complement of the laboratories of the IHBT. It continuously advocates an independent and impartial assessment of the professional competence of the Complement of Laboratories according to the ČSN EN ISO 15189 standard, the application of which is verified by the Czech Institute for Accreditation. The test methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the Annex to the Certificate of Accreditation in the current version, which is available on the IHBT website.
The Laboratory for Disorders of Haemostasis (LPH) deals with the diagnosis and pathophysiology of disorders of haemostasis. It was established as a coagulation research laboratory in the 1970s and profiled in parallel with the development of scientific discoveries in the field of coagulation and haemostasis. Today, its activities are a combination of routine and consultant work in laboratory diagnostics and grant-supported scientific research. The laboratory works closely with the outpatient Centre for Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the NRL for Haemostasis Disorders.
The laboratory focuses on comprehensive haemostasis diagnostics, both routine and specialized, including translational medicine focused on haemostasis disorders and molecular genetic screening for congenital haemostasis disorders. He specializes in comprehensive phenotypic and genetic screening of patients with congenital bleeding disorders (haemophilia, von Willebrand disease, rare bleeding disorders of other coagulation factors and congenital thrombocytopathy) and congenital thrombotic disorders (antithrombin, protein S, protein C deficiency). An integral part of the laboratory's activities is the differential diagnosis of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and the complete diagnosis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and monitoring predictive factors for relapse of these diseases. The laboratory also focuses on monitoring anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy. It also performs molecular genetic testing of disorder of haemostasis, determination of haemophilia carriage and prenatal testing of haemostatic disorders. The laboratory collaborates with cardiology, nephrology, paediatrics, neurology, obstetrics, genetics and other departments to introduce innovative methods of haemostasis testing. It performs consultant activities in laboratory diagnostics of haemostasis disorders for the whole Czech Republic. Laboratory staff regularly publish and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals. The laboratory participates in practical and theoretical teaching university staff preparing for specialisation examinations in laboratory haematology. The laboratory is also involved in the training of postgraduate students for the Ph.D. degree.
The quality of its activities is monitored by participation in external quality control (EQA) of international organizations such as UK NEQAS and ECAT.
The staff is bound by confidentiality according to the Health Services Act, 372/2011 Coll.
Confidence and high data security is one of the basic priorities within the activities of the Complement of Laboratories of the IHBT. The established procedures are carried out in accordance with the Personal Data Processing Act 110/2019 Coll. and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC.
